The governor of Eastern Lakes State governor has dismissed accusations of power grab and violating the state constitution labelled against him after he appointed new cabinet ministers and swore them in without approval of the state parliament.
Last Friday, Marial Amum, the head of the state parliamentary information committee said that the governor acted in contravention of the state constitution, describing the new cabinet as unconstitutional because it has not been vetted by the state parliament.
But Governor Bor Wutchiok told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the members of the assembly have lost legitimacy because their terms in office had come to an end and that they have no right to vet the new cabinet.
He further said those who are accusing him of violating the state constitution were appointed by him and not the people of the state.Wutchiok pointed out that it is within his constitutional jurisdiction to appoint the cabinet and even dissolve the assembly if need be.
