The governor of Eastern Lakes State General Rin Tueny Mabor has announced the closure of Gutthom port, in an effort to cut down on cattle raiding.
This is the fourth port to be closed recently, a local radio station reported, citing the closure of three ports of Limkethi, Ahou and Wunthou last week by authorities of Awerial County.
“The security forces will be deployed there at Gutthom and if they found you using the port the again both the boat and the cattles will not be yours again and you will be imprisoned for two years. I need this order to be very clear to everyone whether here in my state or in Jonglei,” said the governor.
The governor says only Mingkaman port will be functioning for moving cattle.
