Eastern Equatoria youth convention concluded last Thursday as the general assembly reconstituted the youth union and elected David Nayee as the new chairperson.

On Monday last week, more than 40 youth delegates from the eight counties converged in Torit to attend a four-day conference to restructure and strengthen the youth union.

The conference conducted under the theme, ” Empowering Youth as the Agents of Peace and Sustainable Development,” was organized by the State Ministry of Youth and Sports with support from partners.

Wani Kute Joseph, the chairperson of the organizing committee and the director general for culture, youth and sports, said the election was conducted according to the state's constitution.

“The chairperson who identified himself came from Kapoeta North County, and nobody wanted to challenge him until he was voted. The candidate's name is David Nayee Lomor, registered voters were 40, total votes counted were 40, invalid votes were 11, valid votes were 29,” Joseph declared.

The newly elected chairperson for the youth union, Mr David Nayee Lomor, who served in several youth positions in greater Kapoeta, promised to work hand in hand with the youth in the state to address the challenges facing them.

“I advise all of you to work with the newly elected body such that all these challenges will be overcome. We know there will be resistance from a few individuals, but it will not stop us from working. We will work together to ensure we administer the issues raised by the youth,” he said.

Hellen Teteo, one of the youth delegates from Ikotos County, hailed the conference and called for the unity of youth in the state to guarantee peace and security.

“What I expect from the new leaders is to forget their interest, put the interest of their youth first, forgetting their differences where they come from. We are youth of Eastern Equatoria, and we have to stand as one union,” she stated.

Governor of Eastern Equatoria State Louis Lobong Lojore assured the youth that the state government is ready to work hand in hand with the youth to address issues of insecurity in the state.

He called on the newly elected leaders to work hard to reach the grassroots to end cattle raiding.
