Eastern Equatoria official warns of hunger in Budi, Kapoeta, Torit

Eastern Equatoria Minister of Agriculture Clement Laku says various counties are witnessing deteriorating humanitarian conditions due to a lack of food.

Laku told Radio Tamazuj that the World Food Programme (WFP) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in collaboration with the national government in Juba have distributed an estimated 100 tons of aid assistance to the affected areas in Budi, Kapoeta, and part of Torit.

However, the official said the assistance was inadequate, while warning against worsening humanitarian conditions among families.

Clement called on the international NGOs and government to provide additional humanitarian assistance to citizens in the state.

The United Nations has reported that 4.6 million people in South Sudan are expected to be severely food insecure this year.
