Eastern Equatoria official says five people died from hunger

The Commissioner of Lopa County in South Sudan's Eastern Equatoria State said five people have died of hunger in the area.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Commissioner Safarino Lopon warned of starvation in his county if there is no intervention from the higher authorities and NGOs in the country to provide food.

He added that people are suffering from hunger which will lead to death if the situation is not rescued this month.

“People are suffering from acute hunger and if there is no any assistance from the government and humanitarian organizations. They will die because most of the people are depending on leaves of trees to survive,” he said.
