Eastern Equatoria: Boda-boda rider in custody after crash leaves boy dead

A motorcycle (boda boda) rider is in police custody for allegedly knocking down and killing a juvenile along the Magwi Obo road in Eastern Equatoria State on Tuesday.

The eight-year-old boy was reportedly rushed to Magwi County Hospital following the accident, where he later died.

Magwi traffic police authorities said about three cases of fatal accidents have been registered in the area since the beginning of the year.

Magwi Police Station Crime Officer Richard Kojo confirmed to Radio Tamazuj the arrest and detention of the boda-boda rider, saying he will be taken to face justice.

Kojo said the tragic accident was under investigation.

“An accident happened along Obo road where a child was knocked down then rushed to hospital. Unfortunately, the child died and currently the suspect is in custody and the matter is under investigation,” he said.

John Baptist Olara, who works for the Women with Impairment Organization in Eastern Equatoria State, expressed shock over the incident, and cautioned some mothers for letting their children wander.

He, however, cautioned the residents against taking the law into their hands instead of letting justice take its course.
