The East Darfur State Water Authority has announced its readiness to provide citizens with drinking water during the coming dry season.

The East Darfur State Water Authority has announced its readiness to provide citizens with drinking water during the coming dry season.

Mukhtar Al-Senussi, the director of water in East Darfur State, told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that the water authority in El Daein City has prepared for the next dry season by stocking up sufficient fuel for water production stations.

Two weeks ago, Al Sanussi held a series of meetings with organizations including the executive directors of all localities, and agreed to provide sufficient fuel for water stations.

He noted that water flow is currently stable but doubled to 18,000 cubic meters a day in El Daein due to the doubling of the population by displaced people from the neighboring cities of Nyala, El Fasher, and Khartoum because of the war.

East Darfur State residents and their animals face a shortage of clean drinking water during the dry season.

Director Al Sanussi pointed out that employees had received their salaries from April until September from local resources.

For his part, El Daein resident Issa Manzoul confirmed that so far water supply is stable but said they fear water shortages during the dry spell. He called on the water department to provide the necessary fuel to power the water production stations.

Meanwhile, the director of the Sudan Badu Organization, Mohammed Idris, said that the city’s water service covers only 40 percent of its population.

With the population of the city of Al Daein doubling, Idris said: “We need concerted efforts from the government and organizations working in the field of water services in providing fuel to operate the stations.”
