The Peace and Reconciliation Committee between the Ma’alia and Hamar Arab tribes has accused Sudanese rebels and some powerful individuals in East Darfur state of fueling the conflict between the two tribes.

The Peace and Reconciliation Committee between the Ma’alia and Hamar Arab tribes has accused Sudanese rebels and some powerful individuals in East Darfur state of fueling the conflict between the two tribes.

The committee also criticized unnamed tribal leaders of mobilizing and arming their members without the knowledge of the government.

Salem El Safi Hajeer, the head of the committee, briefed members of National Legislative Assembly on contentious points between the Ma’alia and Rizeigat tribes, saying the committee totally failed to find a possible settlement for the two tribes’ feud.

“Those points led to the failure of the peace meeting, thus the reconciliation conference was postponed indefinitely by the committee,” he explained.

Hajeer also accused the Sudanese rebel movements and some people within the state of circulating rumours in order to instigate conflict in the Darfur region.
