East Darfur governor’s visit to Ad Daein town postponed

A scheduled visit by the newly appointed East Darfur governor Anas Mansur to the state capital Ad Daein was postponed yesterday despite preparations for a reception ceremony.

A scheduled visit by the newly appointed East Darfur governor Anas Mansur to the state capital Ad Daein was postponed yesterday despite preparations for a reception ceremony.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, many citizens living in Ad Daein town said they are optimistic about the new govemor, saying he will bring stability by resolving the ongoing feud between the Ma’alia and Rizeigat peoples.

They called on the federal government in Khartoum to support the new governor to address the fued which has killed dozens recently.

Meanwhile, several observers said they feared clashes could erupt again at any between the two groups when pastoralists return back from the South as the rainy season nears.

They also called upon the native administrations from the two tribes to play a role to stop fighting.  

However, other Sudanese citizens living in Adila and Abu Karinka have rejected the newly appointed governor, saying he will fail to bring stability since he is not  from the state.
