The governor of Sudan’s East Darfur State has imposed a curfew in Ad Daein town on Tuesday after an armed tribal group whose relatives were recently killed during Tor Ta’an clashes stormed his house, killing two guards and wounding several others on Monday evening.

In a press conference, Governor Anas Omar imposed a curfew from 7 pm until 7 am in an attempt to control the security situation. He vowed to hold those involved in the incident accountable.

For his part, Mahmoud Musa Madibo, the nazir (paramount chief) of the Rizeigat tribe, condemned the incident that took place at Tor Taan area, describing it as very confusing.

The traditional leader also condemned the burning of the governor’s house. He added that the governor’s house in Ad Daein town is public property.

Madibo pointed out that the Tor Taan incident which killed several people from the Rizeigat and Maalia tribes would not affect outcomes of the Merowe peace conference.
