Sudanese security operatives on Tuesday carried out a house-to-house disarmament exercise at Guba and Al-Muhajir neighbourhoods in Ad-Daein town of East Darfur State.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, residents of the two areas accused the security forces of being harsh to them, saying they did not follow the standard procedures. The complaining residents said after the exercise no weapons were collected.

Sudanese Vice President, Hasabo Abdurrahman, during his recent visit to Darfur instructed the relevant authorities to collect firearms from civilians and cease illegal vehicles.

Many people have criticized the order saying it is the same government that arms civilians in Darfur.
