At least five people, including three women, were killed and five others were injured, in a military airstrike on Al Daein town of East Darfur State, about 831km southwest of Khartoum, Monday night.
Police Major Ahmed Attia Allah told Radio Tamazuj from the scene that an airstrike, believed to have been carried out by the military, resulted in the death of five people and injuries to five others.
“The airstrikes dropped six explosive barrels yesterday on Al Daein, specifically on the airport and Al Gubba neighborhoods, which led to the death of five people and the injury of five people, in addition to the death of a number of livestock,” he explained.
Allah appealed to the residents of East Darfur State to be wary of any strange objects, and to immediately report any unexploded substances so that the police can secure the place.
One of the injured, Kaltouma Ishaq Hilal, narrated to Radio Tamazuj that she was selling foodstuff at the Sitta market when the plane struck. She said she went down before the explosive barrel fell, causing her a minor injury to her leg.
“I was working here and when I heard the sound of the plane, I lay down but still got injured on my leg,” she said.
An eyewitness named, Bali Dau al-Nur Bali, said that one of the barrels fell two meters from his house, without causing any injuries to any family members.
“The house was only cracked and there were losses of the household furniture,” he said.
