President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Tuesday evening decreed the appointment of Eastern Equatoria and Upper Nile states governments, completing the formation of the country's ten states.

The decrees read on government-owned SSBC yesterday appointed state advisors, ministers, county commissioners, and members of state independent commissions for the two states.

Recently, the President reconstituted the Lakes, Warrap, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Western Bahr el Ghazal, Western Equatoria, Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Unity states governments.

The new officials are representatives of the SPLM party of the Interim Transitional Government of National Unity, South Sudan Opposition Alliance, SPLM-IO, Other Political Parties, and the National Agenda, a partner to the former Interim Transitional Government of National Unity as dictated by the revitalized peace agreement.

However, the national legislative assembly, the council of states, and local governments for Ruweng, Pibor, and Abyei Administrative Areas are yet to be reconstituted.

Last week, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) David Shearer called on the parties to accelerate the reconstitution of the national legislature and council of states, and finalize the constitution paving the way for elections.
