The Obira Community in Torit is calling on the Eastern Equatoria State authorities to investigate the killing of one of its members in Haforiere village last week.

The Obira Community in Torit is calling on the Eastern Equatoria State authorities to investigate the killing of one of its members in Haforiere village last week.

The deceased, identified as Joseph Lagu, is said to have been killed by his friend last Sunday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Obira community leader Buluk Philip called on the Haforiere community to cooperate with the state government to apprehend the culprit.

“We remain calm; my community has remained calm since the incident occurred because we are already following the law. We have already taken the body to the village (Obira Boma) and has been buried. We are waiting for the law to take its course because now we have nothing to do. It is upon the government now to investigate and bring the perpetrator to book,” Philip said.

Buluk Philip further said the Obira community are demanding blood compensation to avoid any escalation.

“We need this issue to be compensated to avoid further escalation of the case because the Haforiere community are not happy also because they contacted us as a community in Torit so that we build harmony,” he said.

Allam William Leka, a relative of the deceased, said: “We don’t understand the reason why he was shot and killed, but what we know is that the deceased was moving with a friend who is the one who shot and killed him at his private residence.”

William called on the government to investigate the incident and apprehend the culprit.

Calls to the State Minister of Local government went unanswered.
