The Buya community has presented a petition to Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong Lojore demanding the split of Budi County into two administrative areas.
“More than one thousand Buya Community members on Saturday converged at Kerenge centre of Kimotong Payam carrying slogans while singing songs calling on the Eastern Equatoria governor to grant them their own administrative area,” reported the Catholic Radio Network, which has a member station in the state capital Torit.
The petition was presented by community elder Lokai Rujamoi. The petition was reportedly received by the governor who has tasked Budi County Commissioner Sam Felix Makuja to write a recommendation letter on the request of the Buya community to be forwarded to the concerned authority.
Catholic Radio Network further reports that the governor urged the Buya people to continue working together with the county leadership while his office looks into their demand, calling upon them also to maintain peaceful co-existence with the neighbouring counties.
