Authorities in Duk Pagak County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State have received a consignment of live-saving drugs a month after an acute drug shortage, a local official said Sunday.

Authorities in Duk Pagak County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State have received a consignment of live-saving drugs a month after an acute drug shortage, a local official said Sunday.

James Yien Jal Duk County commissioner said they received three months consignment on Friday after the shortage since December.

“After our crying, one of the organizations called Magna sent us the consignment of three months. And also we received a one-month consignment of medicine from the Jonglei State government. So now we have four months consignment,” he said.

The local official welcomed the donation saying it will rescue those suffering from malaria and diarrhea.

Commissioner Jal, however, pleaded with health agencies operating in the country to supply more drugs as the county’s only health facility receives patients from the neighboring states.

Last month, authorities in Duk Pagak County reported a rise in malaria and diarrhea cases after the only primary health care center run out of medicine in December.
