Duk Padiet’s commissioner resigns barely a month in office

Jacob Akech Dengdit, the county commissioner of Duk Padiet County in South Sudan’s Jonglei State last Friday resigned barely a month after he was sworn in as the commissioner.

Akech was sworn in on 16th of March despite rejection by a section of his community.

“My resignation as the commissioner of Duk Padiet County is with the reference to Hol Community meeting held for ten days in Bor town and was attended by the intellectuals, chiefs and elders in which the core resolution was maintaining peace and harmony within Hol community and Jonglei state as whole,” read the letter which is signed and approved by Jonglei State Governor Phillip Aguer.

Prior to his swearing-in, a section of the Hol community rejected his appointment as county commissioner accusing him of creating division among the four clans of the Hol community.

Akech further thanked the state government for granting him the opportunity to serve the people of Duk Padiet County.
