Duk County suffers cell network outage

Duk Commissioner Akech Deng says the government has complained to a phone company about the lack of network in his county since the area was recaptured from South Sudan rebels last year.

Duk Commissioner Akech Deng says the government has complained to a phone company about the lack of network in his county since the area was recaptured from South Sudan rebels last year.

Akech told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that he spoke with Zain network engineer last week and he promised to convey his concern to the company’s Juba office for quick response.

The commissioner described the communications network as an important gateway for national reconciliation and peace promotion, saying it should be reopened.

Akech also noted that some primary schools in the area are not operating. He said, “I had only two primary schools operating where one in Poktap and other in Ayueldit and they area supposed to have four primary schools but the rest are not functioning due to lack of services.”

He said there are over 900 pupils in Poktap while in Ayueldit there are almost 700 pupils. The commissioner noted the schools are getting support from LWF and UNICEF.
