Police in Rumbek, Lakes State have said that they arrested a teenager who killed the driver of a commuter vehicle on Monday evening in Rumbek East.
The suspect, Mathat Kokde Maker, who is said to have been drunk at the time allegedly shot and killed the driver at 7 pm in the area of Karic while the latter was transporting passengers from Juba to Rumbek.
The deputy commissioner of police in Rumbek East County, Brigadier Makur Dak, told Radio Tamazuj that the suspect was apprehended and handed over to Rumbek town police for investigation and imprisonment.
“We immediately apprehended that suspect yesterday and he was taken to Rumbek police for custody and investigation. The name of the suspect is Mathat Kokde Maker," Brigadier Makur Dak said.
The Lakes State police spokesperson, Captain Elijah Mabor Makuac, confirmed that incident and said the drunk 17-year-old teenager jumped into the road and shot the driver dead.
"The suspect was drunk, he shot dead the driver of a commercial vehicle and he didn't loot anything from the vehicle. He is now in custody," he said.
