Drug shortage hits Duk Pagak County hospital

The only health facility in Duk Pagak County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State has run out of life-saving medicines, a local official said.

The only health facility in Duk Pagak County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State has run out of life-saving medicines, a local official said.

The county commissioner, James Yien Jal told Radio Tamazuj Friday that area residents have, since last week, depended on herbal medicines for treatment as health services at the facility are lacking.

He said the facility has been receiving patients from neighboring states and medical consignments received four months are finished.

“Even if they brought consignments for 10 months, it will also finish because people come from Fangak and Bieh states,” said Yien.

He added, “In the morning [Friday], two people, aged between 40 and 50, died from diarrhea in the centre of Duk Pagak”.

The local official urged health partners in the country to supply drugs.
