The traffic police in Nimule town of South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State have arrested two drivers for knocking dead a boda-boda rider and his passenger, a soldier from the Wounded Heroes Unit on Sunday.
Captain Juma George, the director for traffic in Nimule said the victims 49-year-old Chol Anei of the South Sudan People's Defence Forces Wounded Heroes Unit and the boda-boda rider 27-year-old Amoko Godfrey Kenyi, were riding from Check Point towards Nimule Town when they met their untimely deaths.
“It was a vehicle that knocked dead one of the Bodaboda riders and the passenger he was carrying. All of them were knocked dead. This driver had run but was arrested. They were two in the car and both accused each other of causing the accident. The first driver we arrested is Felix Taban 25, and the real driver is called Asio Jackson 24,” Captain George said.
The traffic officer explained that the accident was caused by speeding, and said preliminary investigations indicate that the Noah driver was wrong after hitting the motorist on the side.
He stated that investigations into the accident have been launched.
The chairperson for the chamber of commerce in Nimule town council condemned the accident and said measures should be put in place to stop drivers from speeding along the highway.
“The reason is that there are no bumps. We should have at least six or eight bumps. Imagine even at the hospital there is no bump, after leaving Malakia market, after reaching the former Eden, that place is terrible, many accidents have happened there," he noted.
