Driver slain in Unity State’s Yida camp

A person was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Yida camp in South Sudan’s Unity State on Tuesday night. The police have been unable to trace the perpetrators.

Buluk Hassan Adil, 28 years old, a driver from Kurungu area in South Kordofan’s Kadugli Locality, had just come to the camp to visit his family, according to a source.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday several South Kordofan refugees expressed concern about what they term “sporadic gun shots” over the last week, which has gone unexplained by local authorities in the camp.

The assault on Hassan’s house in block nine of the camp took place around 9:00 p.m. when a criminal group shot him, a source said. He was wounded and taken to a hospital run by Doctors without Borders where he later died the following day.

Refugees accused security authorities of indifference in maintaining order in Yida camp. “I went to raise this issue of shooting and killings at night to the police station in the area, but I was told by the junior officers that the director did not come to the office today,” a refugee said.
