The incident took place when the team was going back to Torit town after participating in South Sudan Cup tournaments in Juba on Monday.

Chabur Goc Alei, President of South Sudan’s Football Association, told Radio Tamazuj today that unidentified gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying Young Star football team at Nesitu area on Tuesday evening.

He pointed out that the incident resulted in the killing of the driver and wounding of at least six players. “There was an ambush there, but I do not have more details, about six players were wounded and the bus driver was killed,” said Goc.

Meanwhile, a source confirmed that the head of the local football association in Torit was among the wounded.

No suspect has been apprehended since the incident took place and no group or person has come out to claim any responsibility for the attack.

On Saturday, at least 11 people were reported killed and 16 others wounded when an unknown gunman opened fire on a group of people watching English premier league game at Gure residential area in Juba.
