Dr. Nyot FC, representing Malek Payam, secured an impressive 2-0 win against Amongpiny Payam FC during an intense inter-Payam football competition organized by the Rumbek Central County Youth Association.
The Rumbek Central County witnessed the commencement of football matches involving its five payams on Monday, signalling the start of a two-week-long sporting extravaganza.
Speaking exclusively to Radio Tamazuj, the coach of Dr. Nyot FC, representing Malek Payam in Rumbek Central County, expressed his elation at his team’s performance in the inaugural game of the inter-Payam football competition.
He shared, “I am very happy for the inter-Payam peace tournament that is going on under Rumbek Central County Youth Association. So, I am appealing to our community, youth, and government that peace is very important.”
He further emphasized the unifying power of sports in fostering peaceful interactions among individuals. He described the match as a “colourful and very interesting” event that attracted a substantial audience. He noted, “It was a very interesting football game between Dr. Nyot FC and Amongpiny. I like the way both teams played. No one is against anyone. They were playing peacefully and the match ended peacefully.”
Peter Kaman Malith, the coach of Amongpiny Payam FC, graciously accepted his team’s 2-0 loss to Dr. Nyot FC of Malek Payam. He underscored the importance of football in promoting mutual understanding and enabling individuals to explore new horizons. He stated, “I am very happy about the match outcomes. In fact, a football game has three things that can happen; there must be a win, a loss or a draw and for me, today I lost but next time I will win. I am very happy just to entertain our county and our state, and I am sure next time, Amongpiny Payam FC will win.”
Deng Mayom Agal, the chairperson of the Rumbek Central County Youth Association, elucidated that the inter-Payam football competition was meticulously designed to promote peace among the youth. He highlighted the participation of the five payams – Jiir, Amongpiny, Malek, Matangai, and Mayom – in Rumbek Central County. Agal stressed that the competition’s purpose extends beyond the realm of sports, aiming to unite youth and communities and facilitate an evaluation of their academic progress.
He explained, “The youth association leadership has initiated this to engage youth such that they know what they are doing instead of drinking alcohol and loitering around the town. We want them to improve and know what they are doing.”
Agal confirmed that the Rumbek Central County inter-Payam football competition will span two weeks, providing ample opportunities for youth engagement and growth. He expressed plans to secure partnerships that will bolster the association’s sports initiatives, underscoring the collaborative nature of the endeavour.
Majok Arop, the executive director of Rumbek Central County, attended the launch of the inter-Payam football competition. He commended the tranquil ambience of the match and congratulated Dr. Nyot FC of Malek Payam on their victory. Arop acknowledged the contributions of coaches and managers to the success of the event.
Regarding security, Arop emphasized the county’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment for attendees. Security personnel were deployed to safeguard the event, with preparedness to intervene against any potential disturbances.
Arop noted, “We supported all the payam teams financially and materially and we have also provided some chairs for those attending the matches. We also provided security.”
