Hundreds of students at Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology in Bor town gathered this morning to protest against the cancellation of the ongoing examinations.
The administration of the public university today suspended the remaining examinations over non-payment of salaries to lecturers and support staff. The exams which started in November 18 were schedule to end on 30 November.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj this morning, several students decried the cancellation of their examinations and urged the national government to settle salary arrears.
Suzan Abraham, a university student, urged the government and the university to resolve the issue. “I am left with three papers only. Now, there is no clarity so as to when I will finish. The government should at least clear the arrears,” she said.
Another student who identified himself only as David blamed the government for its reluctance to commit to its promises.
University officials declined to comment on the matter.
