Dozens of inmates still hungry in Tonj North prisons

Dozens of inmates in South Sudan’s Warrap state prisons are facing shortages of food over a month amid demands for relevant government institutions to intervene as soon as possible.

Tonj North Commissioner Tito Sijin told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that inmates in his county are facing a shortage of food since early February.

He said they have contacted the state authorities about the issue but they did not respond up till now.

The county official previously reported about 166 prison inmates in Tonj North.

Many right groups including Human Rights Watch have said in previous reports that there are dire conditions in many prisons in South Sudan, calling for the need to improve the justice system in South Sudan.
