A group of unknown gunmen forcibly took dozens of weapons from a wildlife service base in the Morobo area of Central Equatoria State on Sunday early morning, according to authorities.
Morobo county commissioner Toti Jacob said that at least 40 guns were looted and three soldiers were kidnapped from the wildlife base. He said there were no casualties and the area is relatively calm.
“Today at around 4 a.m. a group of unknown armed men came and broke into the stores of wildlife and they have collected forty guns and three people who were there,” he said. “I wanted to urge the public to cooperate with us and tell us where this people are because they have gone into the bush so that we can intervene.”
Toti called on people to remember that the country has signed a peace agreement in Addis Ababa last year.
“We don’t want armed conflict,” he stressed.
This attack comes after a robbery nearly two weeks ago when unknown gunmen attacked passengers on Yei-Morobo highway leaving one businesswoman injured in a road ambush.
