Dozens of families are still living in the open following displacement by an attack on Raja town in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State last week, facing harsh conditions and fears of renewed attacks.
Several displaced people told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that their families are living in open areas outside the town amid rainfall, while others fled to Sudan’s East Darfur.
“Children are sick and there is heavy rainfall in the bush. We cannot live in this situation. Some people have returned but we are still outside the town,” said one displaced person. They said there are fears of renewed attacks on Raja by rebels.
Last week, a group of gunmen opposed to the creation of ‘Lol State’ attacked Raja, killing dozens of soldiers and bodyguards of the governor and displacing hundreds.
