Dozens of families in Renk County of South Sudan’s Upper Nile State have fled to Sudan fearing the conflict that erupted between SPLA and SPLA-IO in Juba last week may shift to Upper Nile, according to a local official.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, County Commissioner Chan Aloung said dozens of families crossed to Sudan, including to the refugee camps near the borders.

But he pointed that otherwise the situation in his county is normal, claiming that most of the residents are still living their normal lives in spite of the small number of residents leaving for Sudan for fear of renewed fighting.

“Some people fled to Sudan fearing the clashes that erupted in Juba may shift to the area. They are only few people and the rest of the residents are in the area,” said Aloung.
