Over 30 civilians have been arrested by security agents in Damazin town of Sudan’s Blue Nile state just days after munitions store exploded in the town.
The arrests were carried out in connection with allegedly releasing information to media outlets following the explosion of the store that took place last week, according to a source close to one of the detainees’ families.
He told Radio Tamazuj that the Security and Intelligence Services arrested over 30 citizens in residential areas including El Tadamoun locality. The families of the detainees called upon human rights defenders and judicial authorities to intervene by releasing the detainees or take them to court for trial.
Last Thursday, a man died and various houses burned when a munitions store of the Division Four Infantry exploded in Damazin town at night. The local authorities attributed the incident to electrical fault.
