Dozens injured in Nimule-Juba road accident treated in Uganda

About 54 people who were injured in a road accident involving a UPDF truck on the Juba-Nimule road have been evacuated for medical treatment in Uganda. Three were also killed.

An eyewitness, Aboyo Olivia, 32 year old, who is getting her treatment in Gulu Referral Hospital in northern Uganda said that that the accident happened Wednesday at morning hours at a place called Jebelein Boma in Aru Payam in Liria County in Central Equatoria.

According to Brig Kayanja Muhanga who led the operation, the UPDF truck driver lost control and over it turned as the last convoy left South Sudan. The accident is believed to have been as a result of a sharp bend that they say the driver failed to negotiate.

Muhanga said that the army tried sending a chopper to the accident scene to evacuate the injured but could not because of the terrain of the area. The rescue team had therefore to use the road.
