Dominique Strauss-Kahn in Juba

The former director of the International Monetary Fund arrived in Juba yesterday and announced that the reason for his visit was to open a bank.

Agence France-Presse, a wire news agency, reported that the National Credit Bank will be a joint venture of Swiss and South Sudanese investors.

The former IMF director may have other business interests in the country as well. He said that South Sudan “deserves special attention.”

Strauss-Kahn was quoted as saying that South Sudan “is a new country with enormous political and economic problems… it needs a full range of opportunities for development and business.”

The prominent French figure arrived on a regular Ethiopian Airlines flight and was greeted at the airport by Minister of Commerce Garang Diing.
