South Sudan’s rebel group SPLM-IO held a leadership conference in Pagak in Upper Nile State from 19-23 April attended by 150 political and military leaders of the movement, according to the final resolutions document of the conference.
The delegates at the conference rejected the constitutional amendments passed by South Sudan’s legislature saying the current government’s mandate is set to expire and will be constitutionally illegitimate.
SPLM-IO also “appeals to the regional and African leaders and the international community at large to proclaim Salva Kiir’s regime illegitimate and to demand its immediate dissolution in order to give peace a chance.”
Delegates mandated their leader to continue negotiating for peace, among other resolutions.
