Doctors in training in Kosti Hospital in Sudan’s White Nile State went on strike on Thursday morning over lack of medical equipment and the facility’s poor working environment.

The protesting doctors said they are suspending medical services except for emergency cases to improve health services to citizens, and that the action comes after unsuccessful meetings with the hospital’s administration.

The strikers demanded improvement of their working environment and provision of life-saving medicines as well as payment of incentives.

They said lack of X-rays and ultrasound services at night is a clear disregard of citizen’s lives. The doctors stressed that they will lift the strike if the administration responds to their demands.
