A High Court in Jonglei State has found a doctor and a nurse guilty of neglecting a patient who died at their private clinic in Bor town last year.
The case involved a 15-year-old girl who died at African Clinic in Bor town after an injection administered by a nurse.
Justice John Yel Aleu, the President of the High Court, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the two foreign medical staff were found to have been responsible for the death of the patient.
“Ajeni Stephen, a medical doctor and Achan Gloria, a nurse were found guilty of medical negligence under section 119 & 220/1 of the Penal Code Act 2008. The court sentenced Ajeni to two years in prison. The second one was imprisoned for three years,” said Aleu.
“Also, they have to compensate the family of the victim. African Clinic has to pay 50 cows in accordance with the Dinka customs,” he added.
The judge said those convicted would serve their sentences in Bor prison, but stressed that they still have 15 days to appeal the ruling.
