Dispute at Abyei watering point results in one injured

A group of unidentified armed men attacked three herdsmen in Rumaker region of Abyei on Wednesday. The attack resulted in an injury to a herdsman and allegedly the looting of 162 cattle.

The injured pastoralist called Monkouc Maker is currently being treated at the dispensary in Agok, southern Abyei. He said that on Wednesday an armed group attacked them in Rumaker area and open fire in the air then one of the perpetrators beat him in his head prompting them to flee.

“I was taking my cows to the water boreholes for drinking then I saw five armed men in front of me and 10 others behind me. When I was approaching those who were ahead of me then they stood up with their guns and one of them opened fire in air while another beat me with an axe and robbed the cows,” Maker said.

Maker claimed that the criminals robbed a number of 162 cattle and took them to unknown direction. Authorities in the region have been notified, but they did not pursue the suspected perpetrators.
