Hundreds of internally displaced persons in Agok, an area near Wau town, are failing to access services after the only bridge connecting it to the town collapsed last month.

The area chief, Peter Monylet Deng told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that residents can no longer access town after the Agok Bridge collapsed, saying they struggle to reach Wau town.

He said a blind man and another person with leprosy fell into a hole last week, blaming the incident on the bridge which he aid needs urgent repair.

Deng urged the government to speed up the maintenance of the bridge in order to make their movement to Wau town easy.

For his part, the deputy mayor for land affairs and environment, Makuac Deng Madut said maintenance work on the bridge started on Thursday.

He, however, said logistical challenges are delaying maintenance of the bridge, but is optimistic that work will be completed within a week.

Deng urged residents of Agok area to be patient.

Agok, which is located south of Wau town in Wau State, hosts hundreds of people displaced by the recent violence in the area.
