Displaced families struggling with hunger in South Kordofan

Families that fled Kuwalib in South Kordofan searching for security are suffering from poor humanitarian conditions particularly related to hunger. A number of local authorities told Radio Tamazuj said there are reports of 600 cases of malnutrition amongst children under five and a lack of access to water and medicine. They said many of these families have been living in dire conditions since the conflict broke out in June last year between government forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement North. Mayor Solomon said many people are surviving on berries and are seriously threatened by widespread hunger in the absence of humanitarian organisations. He appealed to humanitarian organisations to provide food, medicine and water to save the lives of the large number of people who remain at risk.
