Thousands of people from the Mundari tribe, who were recently displaced due to clashes with Dinka Bor community in Gameza County, are currently facing bad humanitarian conditions in several islands within the same county in Terekeka State, a local official said.
Terkeka Information Minister Philip Lado told Tamazuj that more than 5,000 internally displaced persons are now sheltering in the open at Wanyang, Diar and Khor Shamba islands, amid acute shortages of food, clean drinking water and medicines.
“The displaced families are staying in the open and they are really suffering. They have no shelters, not even something to eat. We brought some medicine but still it is not enough. Many women, children and the elderly are suffering,” he said.
The minister appealed to humanitarian agencies to come and help the needy people as soon as possible. He also revealed that there is a plan by the presidency to organize a peace conference between Terkeka and Jonglei states.
