Thousands of conflict-displaced persons mostly men who are sheltering inside the UN camp at Jebel area in South Sudan’s capital Juba said they do not leave the camp during the day in fear of being targeted by government troops.

“ I fear for my life, if I go, those soldiers who mostly speak Dinka language at Checkpoint area in Jebel Kujur and at Eye Radio junction can killed me “one of university students told Radio Tamazuj.

They further said all the displaced people who sought shelter in the UN protection sites were locked in those sites since fighting erupted in early July between forces loyal to President Kiir and those supporting former vice president Riek Machar.

Meanwhile, Stephen Makoy, a camp leader at Juba PoC3, claimed that some government soldiers often shoot at internally displaced families inside the UN base.

Stephen urged the government not to target civilians. “The fighting that erupted was outside there, the government shouldn’t shoot bullets in a way that targets civilians here,” said Stephen. “So the soldiers must differentiate between armed men and civilians, “he added.
