Thousands of flood-stricken people in various areas in Gogrial East county in Warrap, South Sudan, are still displaced due to the overflow of the Jur River. They are suffering from diarrhoea and an outbreak of “an unknown virus”.

The Gogrial East County Commissioner, Wol Anei Anei, told radio Tamazuj that the condition of the affected people is deteriorating. Neither humanitarian assistances nor the government are taking actions.

Citizens are suffering from diarrhoea and an outbreak of “an unknown contagious disease which infects private parts of the body,” according to the commissioner.

Wol also noted that the road connecting Gogrial East with the Kwajok county in the west has been cut off, also due to the flood caused by the Jur River that originates from Western Bahr El Ghazal state.

He predicted an inspection visit of the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to the aggrieved households on 28 November.

The county authorities have been able to inform all the key stakeholders about the deteriorating situation in Gogrial East county, the official explained.

15,900 people in Warrap state have been displaced by the floods according to Wol in November.
