Discontent in Sennar villages after flood

Farmers and landowners in villages affected by the Dinder river floods in Sennar state expressed their discontent with the state government over neglect for the losses they have suffered from the floods.

Delegations from Duba, Loulaha, Alaowya, Alsewar, Safra, Ahamidaniah, Wad Ayesh, Wad Alzulghem and Ghazaya villages asked the state governor Ahmed Abbas to be aware of his role towards the citizens and visit the villages to find out the scope of the losses they have suffered instead of just giving promises.

A number of affected people told Radio Tamazuj that the Dinder flood caused damage to more than 10 thousand houses and hundreds of acres of agricultural projects and dikes, as well as destroyed Doba Bridge which was the main entrance to this village.

One villager speaking to Radio Tamazuj stressed that the possibilities are open to them in case the state government continue to ignore the demands of the people of these villages.

Losses were estimated in billions in the damaged villages and he added that some farmers have taken money from banks. The flood damages endanger their livelihoods and could exposure them to prison for failure to pay debts.
