A section of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) – war victims staged protests on Tuesday morning in the capital Juba, officials said.

The soldiers — most of whom sustained injuries during the conflict— started the demonstration over non-payment of their medical allowances by the government.

“Yes the disabled soldiers protested and went to the ministry of cabinet affiairs. The soldiers demanded medical allowances,” South Sudan interior minister Michael Chiangjiek told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday.

Asked what authorities in Juba were doing to address the issue, Minister Chiangjiek said the government explained the circumstances prompting for non-payment of their allowances.

“They have listened to the government and the issue has been brought under control.  We are working to solve the issue,” he said.
