Local administration and civil society in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan went on a procession to the UNISFA in Abyei protesting the visit of the Abyei joint oversight committee from Sudan to oversee humanitarian assistance sent from Sudan.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, Chief Nyol Fagot said the humanitarian convoy arrived in Abyei on Friday and went back on Saturday after the citizens rejected it to cross through the area.
“A convoy from Sudan carrying humanitarian assistance was coming to Abyei. We obstructed and informed them that we have not been informed about it from Sudan or South Sudan. The convoy went back to the north. It was accompanied with the Abyei joint oversight committee from Sudan,” said Fagot.
He said they obstructed the convoy from crossing because they were not informed about it neither from Sudan nor from South Sudan. Fagot added that they informed the commander of the UNISFA that they reject the visit of the Abyei Joint Oversight Committee from Sudan and even South Sudan to the area.
