The Dinka Malual community and the Sudanese Fallata pastoralists in Majok Yihn Thiou, a border municipality situated in the far north of Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State, have committed themselves to promote peaceful coexistence and unity in the borderlands.
The communities’ statement came after Radio Tamazuj carried out interviews in Majok town to gauge relations between the Dinka Malual and the Fallata pastoralists who migrate to Majok and move around Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State every year.
Although Misseriya and Rizeigat herders usually have seasonal migration to wetlands of Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State, a small number of the Fallata pastoralists live in Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State throughout the year.
The Dinka Malual paramount chief in Aweil East County, Peter Makuac Makuac Kuol, said the Fallata herders are always peaceful compared to the other pastoralists from neighboring Sudan.
He revealed that the Fallata come to his area every dry season and some of them move within the state’s areas of Rumaker, Gokmachar, Wetwil, and Aroyo.
“The Fallata are good people and they don’t have any problem with us at all. They graze their cattle here peacefully compared to the Misseriya. Our relations with the Fallata were established a long time ago,” Chief Makuac said.
Hussein Haron, a Fallata tribesman who spoke to Radio Tamazuj last week appreciated their relations with the host Dinka Malual community.
“We are okay and we thank God because we don’t have any problem with them (Dinka Malual). We are all safe here. There is no problem with them here in Majok, our relations are good,’’ Haron said.
Another Fallata herder, Adam Jibril, said, “All of us live in a good way. We do not have any serious problems among us at all and these people are good.’’
For his part, Anei Akoon Akoon, the Mayor of Majok Yihn Thiou Municipality, applauded the Fallata community for their positive role in promoting peaceful coexistence in the area.
“The Fallata community do not come with firearms at all, but the Misseriya come with guns in areas under Majok Yihn Thiou,’’ the mayor said.
