The Jieng (Dinka) council of elders has welcomed the IGAD initiative for a face-to-face meeting between President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar.
Joshua Dau, co-chairman of the advisory group, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that his group welcomes the initiative, explaining that peaceful dialogue was what the council has been advocating.
“The council has always been for peaceful dialogue because we believe that political issues are resolved through political processes,” he said.
The elderly politician, who is also a member of the upper house of parliament, said the meeting between Kiir and Machar will be an opportunity for them to discuss sticking issues and agree on how the parties would overcome the stalemates at the last round of the peace talks.
