Sudanese security forces clashed with the Justice and Equality Movement north of Babanusa in western Kordofan over the weekend.
Engagements since Friday or Saturday left dead as many as 19 officers of the ‘national intelligence and security’, according to witnesses in Babanusa who reported seeing the bodies.
Sudan Armed Forces Spokesman Al Sawarmi Khaled has denied any fighting in the area. JEM sources confirmed the rebels clashed with government forces in Al Bouta area.
Rebel advances in areas between North and South Kordofan have reportedly dispersed government forces southward. Heavy military presence in reported in Babanusa.
