Elijah Pajok Buom, the state information minister, told Radio Tamazuj that Deputy Speaker Peter Kuon Yak died at a hospital in Cairo where he was undergoing medical treatment.

The minister said the state lawmaker has had a long battle with cancer.

“Honorable Kuon was an excellent man. He served in several positions in Jonglei parliament and national parliament in 2010, “he said.

The state official pointed out that they were shocked to learn of the untimely demise of the deputy speaker. “His death is a great loss, not only to the people of Fangak State, but the entire country. Kuon was a nationalist and a freedom fighter, ‘he said.

Minister Pajok sent condolences to the state government and the family of the deceased.
