Deputy governor of ‘Terekeka State’ resigns

Clement Maring Samuel, deputy governor of the proposed Terekeka state, has resigned his position and accused governor Juma Ali Malou of misusing government funds.

Clement Maring Samuel, deputy governor of the proposed Terekeka state, has resigned his position and accused governor Juma Ali Malou of misusing government funds.

Maring submitted his resignation in a 30 May letter seen by Radio Tamazuj. Maring’s move follows the resignation of the Terekeka information minister last week, who also accused Juma of corruption.

Maring told Radio Tamazuj he is in sound mind and his resignation was not imposed on him by anyone.

“This is just because of worst relationship between me and the governor,” Maring said in an interview. “You will expect more resignations coming because the life the governor has actually put before the people of Terekeka.”

Maring said the governor lacks “vision” for Terekeka.

The former deputy governor said since the cabinet was formed the governor has been based in Juba with his entire cabinet and has handled the state’s affairs privately.

“The governor is not very transparent in financial matters and even in the distribution of government fuel. The fuel is been distributed in his own home by his children. You know, issues of the government should be done in transparent matter,” Maring said.

“Since I was there as deputy governor, he has not brought finances to be tabled in the council of ministers so that we discuss and maybe try to put something right,” he accused. “It is through finances we can move, but his things are done in hidden way.”

In his resignation letter, Maring further accused Juma of sidelining him as deputy governor by refusing to pick his calls and by delegating tasks to others. He said the governor did not have trust in him as his deputy and questioned why he was appointed deputy in the first place.

He said the governor would “constantly accuse” him of being a threat to his office, and dismissed such an allegation.

Maring said the 28 states were given to render services, but it has been used by individuals for personal interest instead.
