The deputy of governor of Gogrial State, who is now the acting governor, Santino Akot Abiem and his cabinet traveled to Wau on Friday to meet with the newly appointed governor of Wau Andrea Mayar Achor to congratulate him for his appointment and discuss the recent violence in Wau.
Governor Achor was last week appointed by presidential order after President Kiir removed General Elias Waya Nyipuoc from his office just six months after his appointment.
After he took oath of office in Juba before the president, the governor has returned to the state and promised that he will help an investigation committee formed by the national government to establish the truth behind the recent violent clashes in Wau in which many lives have been lost.
Minister of Information for Gogrial State Adior Kuol Amum explained some of the issues discuss by governors of two states.
“The aim of our visit is to congratulate the newly appointed governor of Wau state Hon. Mayar Achor. Also we shared with him and discuss some of the issues that that may arise from the crisis that happened in Wau one week ago as you all know Wau state is the mother state before the split of four main states of Greater Bahr El Ghazal region,” said the minister in a statement released to the media upon her return on Friday from Wau.
She said the recent Wau crisis is the concern of the states of Bahr El Ghazal as a whole and in particular Warrap.
“For those who are residents of Wau we cannot say that they are all the people of Wau alone because many of them are from all these other ten states (ten newly created states in Bahr El Ghazal) and if there are crisis in Wau, then it should be a concern to all of us from the other states and we feel that we should come in as brotherly states and neighbours because we feel the pain also,” she added.
Last week the government of newly created Gogrial State formed a committee to identify and register people who fled Wau violence in order to assist them.
